A WINCHESTER clothing store is set to close its doors for the final time.

Jack Wills in the High Street now has a "closing down" sign in its window, with products being sold at a reduced price.

The company, which Sports Direct acquired out of administration in August for £12.8m, has roughly 98 stores across the country.

Some stores have already closed, including those in Marlborough, Derby, Reigate, Rock, Tunbridge Wells, Durham, Kingston and St Albans.

A customer outside the Winchester branch told the Chronicle: "I don't see why it's closing, it always seems to be busy when I come down.

"I thought Winchester would be the perfect customer base for a Jack Wills store, but apparently I was wrong."

A number of stores in the High Street have permanently shut this year, including Cath Kidston and Pandora.

A spokesperson for the Winchester Jack Wills declined to comment.

The Chronicle has contacted the Jack Wills and Sport Direct head offices, but is yet to receive a reply.
