A PEAK District Mountain Rescue Team have come to the rescue of the volunteers from Keswick after the Cumbrians lost one of their most vital pieces of equipment, their Land Rover.

The vehicle was written off in an accident during a callout this has left Keswick Mountain Rescue Team scrambling for suitable transport.

Realising they had a spare vehicle, Edale Mountain Rescue Team has loaned one of its Land Rovers to colleagues in Keswick while they arrange a replacement for the off-road ambulance.

Once the damaged had been done the Edale team put a plan into motion to get the team back on the road.

The Peak District team offered the Keswick volunteers use of one of its older vehicles which was not being used much.

A Keswick MRT spokesperson said: “A rescue team vehicle is not the sort of vehicle you can go out and hire, as you would with a courtesy car as supplied by an insurance company, as it has a lot of specialist equipment that is fitted.

“So we are hugely indebted to Edale MRT for their generous assistance – especially as they were also able to deliver it to us.

“It shows the depth of comradeship within the mountain rescue community.”

Team members were on hand as it arrived in Keswick on Monday morning to thank the Edale members who had brought it up.

KMRT were called to help a man who had a potentially serious medical condition when the Land Rover rolled down a steep bank at Stoneycroft Beck, Newlands.

Thankfully at the time, two groups of rescuers had made their way to a 61-year-old man who seriously ill.

Mountain rescue teams are made up of volunteers and rely on donations to buy equipment and support them in the work they do. Keswick Mountain Rescue Team are on-call 24-hours-a-day 365 days a year.

This act of kindness shows the support they have for one another.
