ALTHOUGH it is a great shame that the firework display will not be held this year it is welcome news that the grass in Mayflower Park is to be reseeded.
Those who regularly visit the park know how badly big events have damaged the grass.
There are huge ruts, bare patches, and vast puddles after rain.
It is a pity Southampton Round Table have not been able to find an alternative venue for a firework display, but it is important that restoration work is done at this time of year, when the re-seeded area will recover quickly and so minimise the time that part of the park will have to be fenced off.
We look forward to Mayflower Park once again looking properly cared-for and Southampton residents, workers and visitors being able to enjoy this wonderful waterfront green space again.
