CONTACTLESS car parking machines have been installed in two city car parks.

The devices, which allow users to pay for their parking without the need for cash, have been fitted in both of Salisbury's Brown Street Car Parks.

Motorists can also pay for their parking by chip and pin or by using the MiPermit app.

As well as this, cash is still accepted by the machines.

Cllr Pauline Church, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for South Wiltshire Recovery, said: “We’re delighted to introduce this technology to Salisbury and we hope it benefits residents, shoppers and visitors alike. If the machines prove to be popular then we’ll look at our options and see if we can roll this out further.

“The leisure and retail offer in the city is so varied and exciting that we want to attract as many people as possible to enjoy them. Taking simple steps like this can have a really positive impact.”

Parking continues to be free after 3pm every day at Salisbury’s Culver Street Car Park, and all of Salisbury’s car parks are free of charge to use every Sunday.
