AN ARMED robber jailed for carrying out a string of raids across has had his sentence cut.

Wayne Grant carried out raids on two petrol stations and a betting shop across a two-day robbery spree with co-defendant Connor Davis.

Just hours after the raids, the pair spent some of their ill-gotten on expensive shopping trips.

The pair were jailed for a total of 17 years at Southampton Crown Court.

Now Grant, who was jailed for eight years for his part in the raids, has had his sentence reduced.

In a new court hearing, Grant’s barrister, Mark Florida-James, said the 27-year-old had already served the equivalent of a two-year sentence for a burglary committed just days before the robbery spree.

He argued that had Grant been sentenced for the burglary alongside the three counts of robbery, he would likely have served a lower total sentence.

Judge Peter Henry agreed to reduce Grant’s sentence by six months.

Grant and Davis targeted two petrol stations and a betting shop.

The court heard the pair, one carrying a knife and the other a police-style baton, robbed the Esso petrol station on Chickenhall Lane, Eastleigh, and then the Texaco petrol station between Botley and Hedge End.

Just hours later the pair went to Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth, where the spent some of their ill-gotten gains on clothing from JD Sports and a watch from Michael Kors.

The following day,

the pair raided the Betfred betting shop in Aldermoor Road, Southampton, and stole more than £3,000.

Again, the pair went on a shopping spree, this time to Bournemouth, where they again spent hundreds of pounds on clothing from JD Sports.

Both denied three counts of robbery but were found guilty following a trial at Southampton Crown Court.

Grant, 27, of Byron Road, Southampton, was sentenced to eight years, now reduced to seven-and-a-half years.

Davis, 25, of no fixed address, received nine years custody.
