POLICE have launched an investigation after hundreds of pounds of cash was stolen from a safe during a raid on a petrol station kiosk.
Officers rushed to Tesco Express at the Esso petrol station, on Twyford Road, Eastleigh, in the early hours of this morning after reports of a break-in.
Police found the store's shutters damaged and glass from the front door smashed.
An investigation has now been launched into the raid, in which a safe said to contain £400 in cash was stolen.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were called at 4.12am on Friday 4 October to a report of an alarm sounding at the Tesco store on Twyford Road, Eastleigh.
"Officers deployed to the scene and found the damage had been caused to the doors.
"Entry had been gained and the safe containing £400 was taken.
"Enquiries are ongoing. No one has been arrested at this time."
The petrol forecourt and the store are both closed.
