THIS is the moment a "maniac" driver mounts a central reservation and crosses on to the wrong side of the road seconds before crashing into two unsuspecting pedestrians.

The video shows a Red Ford Focus being driven at speed in Eastleigh as the driver attempts to evade police.

Moments before the video begins, the vehicle is captured on camera speeding down Woodside Avenue as pursuing officers give chase.

The video shows the Focus as it crosses over the central reservation and is driven into Leigh Road.

It ends seconds before the collision with the two pedestrians, both of whom suffered a broken leg and were rushed to hospital.

The driver, James Goddard, of Mayles Close in Wickham, fled the scene of the crash, which took place on December 19 last year.

Today the 28-year-old was jailed for two years and 10 months at Southampton Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by driving.

He also pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to stop at the scene, failing to report a collision, dangerous driving, related to another incident, failure to surrender to court and driving without insurance.

In sentencing, Judge Gary Burrell QC said Goddard was "driving like a maniac".
