Join us on another trip back through the decades – this time to October 1969.
These pictures – all of which were taken that month – depict a range of happenings within the local community.
A pumpkin contest in Broughton rewarded happy winners for the giant fruits of their labour while coin collectors whet their whistles for numismatics by attending a fair at the Skyway Hotel, Southampton.
As the events in these images were snapped, this is what was happening nationally:
October 1
The Post Office became a statutory corporation.
October 5
Monty Python's Flying Circus was first broadcast on the BBC. The show went on for four series across 45 episodes.
October 14
A seven-sided 50p coin was introduced as a replacement for the 10-shilling note. The British public complained it was too similar to the 10p coin.
October 16
Peter Nichols' black comedy The National Health premiered at the National Theatre in the Old Vic, London.
