YOUNGSTERS at an Andover school were treated to a special visit.

David Dein MBE, former Arsenal shareholder, Football Association ambassador and the man credited by many as being key in the creation of the premier league paid a visit to Winton Community Academy.

It was said that the young people and staff alike were in awe of his presentation, his knowledge of the game and his wonderful humour.

His message was clear for the students, and his values of hard work and bravery resonated with the audience and his energy led to more questions than time would allow.

The school said it was particularly grateful to Mr Dein who made time to speak with students and staff on an individual basis after his presentation.

The visit was summed up by student Martin Ashworth, who said: “He was really cool. You can see why he was so successful. I am not an Arsenal fan but his story of being brave enough to try what he thought was right and work hard made things happen.”

And assistant headteacher Iain Parsons said: “It is a real privilege for students and staff at Winton to host a world class presenter like David Dein. He was approachable, engaging and a thoroughly nice chap. Our thanks to his team for making this happen.”
