A pub with a "dog menu" is in the final of being crowned the most dog friendly pub in the country.

The Red Rover pub claims to have "more dogs than people" and is one of two pubs in the Dog Friendly awards.

The pub, in West Wellow, even has a dog menu which includes a rump steak for our four-legged friends.

Manager of the Red Rover, Emma Dodge, became manager six months ago and turned the pub "more dog friendly".

The 40-year-old said: "It was a public nomination and then we pushed it in house, I got a call last week to say we were going to London on November 2 for the ceremony.

"We do all sorts of dog stuff, we have more dogs than people.

"I am probably a bit biased because I have four dogs of my own."

Emma then introduced a dog menu and it was a huge success.

She added: "We have a dog dinner menu at the bar, it has chicken breast and rice, rump steak, sausages and more on it.

"We had one person come in with her four dogs and they all had dinner here.

"It has really taken off."

Emma said she created the dog menu because it is near the New Forest and lots of people walked past with their dogs.

Emma, who lives at the pub, said: "We have a whole section for dogs, we even have an ale barrel which has paw prints all over it.

"We did it so people can be social with their dogs, they are part of the family.

"As a dog owner, I found it hard to find somewhere which is dog-friendly so the dogs can go indoors."

The awards night will be at the Hilton Hotel in London on November 2, 2019.

The Rover has been nominated in the pub category.
