'Concerning and upsetting': MP responds after raiders target Eastleigh petrol station

Police rushed to the scene at the Tesco Express at the Esso petrol station, on Twyford Road, after an intruder alarm was activated.

Two trays from its tills were taken by the burglars.

One nearby resident said she was awake when she heard a noise.

She said: "I heard a loud smash whilst I was in the toilet and had a bit of a headache after. Why would they do that for? It does worry me a bit."

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 4am on October 17 to report of a potential burglary at the Tesco Store on Twyford Road in Eastleigh following the activation of an intruder alarm.

"Officers deployed to the area and found the store had had its windows smashed and entry had been gained.

"Two till trays were stolen. Enquiries are ongoing."

The burglary comes after the same store had £400 stolen during a raid earlier this month.

It remains open to the public.
