A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape as part of an investigation into a serious sexual assault.
As previously reported, police launched a hunt after the attack in Winchester city centre in the early hours of Saturday, October 12.
The victim of the incident in the St George's Street area, which took place at around 5am, was a woman aged in her 20s.
In an update to their investigation, Hampshire Constabulary said: "A 43-year-old man from Winchester was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape on the evening of Wednesday 16 October.
"He remains in police custody."
Anyone with information in relation to the incident should call police on 101, quoting Operation Diagram.
