A POPULAR Eastleigh post office is set to close after the postmaster quit.

The Fryern Hill Post Office in Chandler’s Ford is to ‘temporary’ close after the Postmaster’s resigned, according to a notice on the shop window.

This has sparked residents to question the state of the local post office, and when the service will return.

One Eastleigh resident, who prefers to remain nameless, said: “They just put a notice in the window of the post office, it’s such short notice and there should be proper communication.”

The building is scheduled to close on Wednesday, October 23 at 5.30pm.

Post Office spokesperson, Sheila Tapster, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Fryern Hill, we are working hard to restore Post Office service to the area as soon as possible.”

She added: “We understand how important a Post Office is to a community and we are committed to providing a Post Office in the Fryern Hill area.

“We are looking at ways to provide Post Office services.”

Any retailers interested in incorporating a Post Office in their premises have been encouraged to email ND.enquiries@postoffice.co.uk.
