A TRAIN service between London and Dorset will not run tonight.

The 6.48pm service from Waterloo has been cancelled over safety concerns about the Class 442 trains, South Western Railway officials say.

A spokesperson from the company said the cancellation is a 'precautionary measure'.

"The issue involves the way the units interact with certain line side signals. This, unfortunately, means that while we work with Network Rail to correct the issue we will be cancelling the 18.48 London Waterloo to Poole service," the spokesperson said.

"We appreciate how inconvenient this will be to passengers on these trains and we will work to reintroduce the Class 442s back into service as quickly as possible.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."
