It's well and truly autumn, the season of taking a lovely walk before finding a cosy pub or restaurant to settle into and feast on a ginormous roast dinner.

So in the interest of making life easy for people, we've pulled together some of our favourites.

  • The London Tavern, Ringwood

Bookings are recommended at the popular London Tavern, where Sunday roasts are served between midday and 7pm.

Meat is sourced from Burley's Shappen Stores, with options including topside of Dexter beef, pannage pork or leg of Lymington lamb and a vegan nut roast to choose from, as well as a homemade Yorkshire Pudding and gravy.

Reviews on TripAdvisor recently rave about the quality of the food. One person said: "Nice traditional pub with a log fire and good atmosphere.

"We all enjoyed the Dexter roast beef Sunday lunch followed by the Terry's chocolate orange cheesecake with ice-cream for dessert.

"The food was cooked and presented beautifully, priced very well and the service was excellent. Will definitely be returning."

  • The Monkey House, Lymington

There's plenty of rave reviews for this lovely family-run pub and kitchen and their roast is reportedly, legendary.

From the size of the Yorkshire puddings to the great ales and quality of the meal, the comments on TripAdvisor have left our mouths watering.

This is from one loyal customer: "Sunday's only ever mean one thing...Sunday roast. We all had a roast, pork or beef, and they were just perfect. Beautifully cooked meat, huge yorkies, crispy roasties and oodles of fresh veg and gravy.

"Like more veg and gravy? No problem, all you have to do is ask!

"Desserts to die for, all presented stunningly, they're a work of art themselves.

"Good beers (we were dining with the owner of Bowman Ales, and one of his beers was a guest ale!)

"Great good and faultless service.

"It's no wonder we keep coming back!"

  • The Cartwheel Inn, Fordingbridge

Traditional Sunday roasts sit alongside dishes including sweet potato tagine and butternut squash tagine with coriander cous cous, fish and chips, seared fillet of sea bream and crayfish, and a salad of Rockbourne smoked trout with fennel, apple and new potatoes.

Each roast - you can chose from beef, chicken or lamb - are served with cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, carrots and broccoli.

The pub, which reopened earlier this year after a closure, welcomes locals, including legendary motor racing commentator Murray Walker, who lives a few miles away.

Situated in one of the Forest’s smallest and quietest settlements the pub is currently closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

  • The Royal Oak, North Gorley

"One of the best Sunday Roast's we have had in a long time. A little gem set in fantastic surroundings. We will definitely be returning."

It's easy to see why The Royal Oak is such a favourite. Their Sunday lunch menu makes us hungry just reading it:

  • Dry Aged Rare Sirloin of Beef (28Days) with Yorkshire Pudding.
  • Roast Loin of Pork with Crackling.
  • Corn Fed Chicken Breast with Sage & Onion Stuffing.
  • Roast Rump of Lamb with a Red currant Gravy & a Rosemary Yorkshire Pudding.

Each accompanied with Duck Fat Roast Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables and Gravy.

There's also a vegetarian tagine, cheese ploughman's and a smoked salmon and crayfish salad.

  • Fox and Hounds, Lyndhurst

Probably the pub with the most expansive Sunday menu on our list, the Fox and Hounds offers a lot more than just a roast dinner.

With starters and sharers, alongside the beef, chicken, pork belly and nut roast, there is also a wide variety of other main courses including thyme roasted celeriac, polenta, sauce vierge, pie of the day, chickpea falafel burger and a rotisserie selection. You're not going to leave hungry.

We might go just for the Vintage Ale sticky toffee pudding and Fuller's salted caramel ice cream.

Sunday they serve from midday until 8pm. Who fancies an afternoon in the pub?
