TWO more arrests have been made in relation to the murder enquiry in Corhampton – bringing the total to 17.

The body of Gurinderjit Rai, a “devoted and loving” father-of-two from Eastleigh, was found in Shepherds Farm Lane in July. He had died as a result of shotgun wounds, with police believing it was a “targeted incident”.

Now, a 30-year-old man from Eastleigh has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, and a 32-year-old Oliver’s Battery woman on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both have been released from custody but remain under investigation.

They join 15 others who have been arrested as part of the investigation, including a man in his fifties from South Wales.

Mr Rai’s family have paid tribute to the 41-year-old. They said: “Gurinderjit was a devoted father to his two young children and a loving fiancé to his partner. He adored his parents.

“He had an infectious sense of humour and would always find the best of any situation. He was a principled man and would always be the first to offer help to those that needed it. He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends.”

As previously reported, Aston Hannis, 28, of Winchester, was jailed for 12 months after he refused to hand over the passcode to his phone to police as part of their investigation

An inquest into Mr Rai’s death was opened in July. Acting area coroner Samantha Marsh said a postmortem found he died of “shotgun wounds to the head and neck”.

Ms Marsh adjourned the inquest to January 24 2020, although that date may change due to the ongoing police investigation.

Police are still appealing for people with any information. This can given by calling 101, and quoting Operation Coach.
