TRICK-or-treaters will not be disappointed this Halloween as an annual Southampton pumpkin carver prepares to showcase his new designs for a third year in a row.

Father-of-two Nick Folkes, who specialises in coffins as an undertaker from Weston, is returning to his spooky season hobby and will be carving 20 pumpkins to place outside his house, carved full of Star Wars shapes to a pumpkin version of Freddie Mercury.

The 44-year-old has taken a week off work to devote time to pumpkin carving each year, with each pumpkin taking him four to five hours to complete.

Daily Echo:

Nick said: “It’s essentially a business that I’ve been running for the last two or three years.

“Everything I make is a new, pre-planned idea, and as soon as November 1 kicks in, I start prepping ideas for next year and look online for current and cool ideas.”

Daily Echo:

He added: “I carved a Freddie Mercury pumpkin in the rain at the Netley Abbey pumpkin festival the other day, and I’ll be carving some Star Wars and other pumpkins soon. They tend to go to mush and only last a week tops. But I do get quite a few trick-or-treaters coming to my house on Halloween.”

Nick is father to two girls Jasmine and Rosina and also manages a girls football team at Hamble Club FC.
