A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car crashed into a pylon and brought down a power line.
Police were called to Netley at about 8am this morning following the incident, which happened at the junction of Victoria Road and Station Road.
A black car was left in the road with its bumper severely damaged and its left wing mirror falling off.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: "The vehicle, a Aixam, collided with a telegraph pole, causing the cables to fall onto the road.
"The driver, a 53-year-old woman, from Southampton, has been arrested for driving when alcohol level above limit.
"She remains in custody at this time."
One witness said: “We heard a massive smash and ran down as soon as we could. The power line had fallen because of the accident.”
Another nearby resident said: “There are always accidents down this road. It needs a one-way system because people come speeding round the corner.”
The power line has since been fixed by SCC, according to police.
