BOSSES behind plans to open a new micro-pub in the centre of Totton have been granted a liquor licence.

But K&S Trading has been told the sale of alcohol must cease at 11.30pm - half an hour earlier than the time originally sought by the company.

Town councillors had objected to the proposal to serve drinks until midnight, claiming it could result in crime and disorder.

The application was submitted by Kevin Goodall, who has drawn up plans to convert the former Noo-Thai restaurant into The 6 Barrels.

A change-of-use proposal was approved by New Forest District Council in August.

Mr Goodall’s planning application said: “We have held a premises licence for the past two years for our restaurant and have had up to 36 people at a time, drinking and having parties, with zero incidents.

“Our manager will also be our designated premises supervisor.

"She has over 20 years’ experience running pubs to a very high standard, managing all aspects of customer relations to a very high standard. We are very confident in her abilities.”

Now the council has also approved Mr Goodall's licensing application after receiving only two objections.

A report to the licensing sub-committee said: "There will be seating for approximately 40 persons inside, with provision for outside seating with a roped off area. However, the applicant has stated that the use of the outside area will cease at 10pm each day."

K&S listed the steps it intends to take to comply with the licence, including staff training, an age verification policy and the use of CCTV.

Totton councillor David Harrison announced the council's decision on social media.

He said: "The committee considered objections from a local resident and the town council but decided to grant permission, subject to a long list of conditions designed to avoid the possibility of disorder."
