RAIDERS smashed open a ticket machine in Winchester city centre stealing money and causing extensive damage.

They targeted Middle Brook Street car park on Wednesday night.

Police estimated the damage at between £5-10,000 as well as cash stolen and lost income.

A city council spokesman said: “Two parking machines at Middle Brook Car Park were targeted by thieves on shortly after midnight on November 7. The council has reported this to the police and assisting them with their enquiries.

“Middle Brook Street Car Park is still open and pay and display ticket machines are in place.

“If anyone has any information about the theft please contact police on 101 quoting the crime reference number 44190399627.”
