RADIO One DJ and former Eastleigh school pupil Scott Mills will lead the celebrations when a new cruise ship makes its debut in Southampton today.

MSC Cruises’ new flagship, the MSC Grandiosa, arrive in the city for the first time this morning.

To mark the arrival, Scott Mills will be taking to the DJ decks during the ship's UK celebratory launch event.

The Radio One DJ, who went to Crestwood School, will get the party going for over 1,500 guests onboard the ship.

MSC Cruises UK & Ireland managing director Antonio Paradiso said: “Following the overwhelming success of our MSC Bellissima event in March and the much loved performance by fellow DJ and pop star, Craig David, we are excited to welcome Scott Mills to the MSC Cruises family for what will no doubt be an exciting night of entertainment.

“It’s a pleasure to be back in the Port of Southampton with an even bigger ship that allows us to showcase the electrifying spirit of MSC Cruises.”

The MSC Grandiosa is the cruise line’s first Meraviglia-Plus class ship.

It boasts 21 bars and lounges and 11 dining venues, including a tapas bar, a sushi restaurant and ‘The Butcher’s Cut’ – a modern American style steakhouse.

MSC Cruises say the ship also features world-class entertainment and will be the third of its ships to feature the world famous Cirque du Soleil at Sea, with two new and contrasting shows designed exclusively for its guests.

It also boasts industry-leading voice-enabled artificial intelligence (AI), developed in partnership with HARMAN international and Samsung Electronics, that will be found in every cabin.

But its most eye catching feature is the authentic Mediterranean-style promenade at the heart.

MSC say the Grandiosa operates with significantly increased energy efficiency and is equipped with state-of-the-art recycling facilities and waste management systems, as well as advanced technology for cleaner ship emissions.
