WITH two Burger King restaurants located in the city centre alone, Southampton residents have long had the option to grab a Whopper burger.
Soon Southampton meat-free eaters can do the same!
The plant-based burger - the Rebel Whopper - has already launched across Europe, and while the company have confirmed they will be coming to the UK soon, it wasn’t in their initial list of rollout countries.
The hot sandwich is being sold at 2,500 restaurants in 25 countries with more planned to follow.
Unfortunately the Rebel Whopper only remains vegan until it’s cooked
The plant-based patty is made from wheat, soy, vegetable oil and onion - but the constructed burger comes with mayonnaise which contains egg. Customers can however ask for it without the condiment.
The bigger problem - and a major concern for vegetarians and vegans - the plant-based patty is cooked alongside the classic Whopper on the same broiler.
As yet, no official date has been given for the UK release.
