THEY have often been praised as the best Christmas lights in the South - and those of 1999 did not disappoint.
Crowds packed Romsey Square to see chamber of commerce president Roderick Hall throw the switch.
The display, which cost more than £8,000, featured more than 6,000 light bulbs plus more than 220 Christmas trees.
New features included ten extra looms across roads and lights in trees by Romsey Abbey.
In keeping with tradition, the chamber of commerce chose a local youngster Nicole Pegram to help with the big switch on.
