WITH Southampton leading the charge for faster broadband, the city could be the best place in the country to play Google’s new gaming platform Stadia.

Google Stadia is a new video game streaming service which doesn’t require a console.

Instead of games being played natively on hardware in gamers’ own homes, the computing power is carried out on Google’s servers and the image streamed back to the gamer.

The system relies heavily on a solid internet connection which means Southampton could be the best place in the country to play.

Virgin Media’s breakneck-speed Gig1 Fibre Broadband is currently available in Southampton and Manchester and is the fastest home broadband available in the country.

The service, which starts at £62 per month, provides users with average download speeds of 1,104Mbps and upload speeds of 52Mbps.

Furthermore, new telecommunications company Toob have selected the city for the initial rollout of their new service.

Toob’s hyperspeed broadband delivers 900Mbps on both download and upload - all for the low price of £25 per month.
