A MAN is set to go on trial next week accused of the rape of a teenager in a Southampton park.

Jozef Janczura, 34, is accused of raping an 18-year-old girl in Riverside Park last year.

The incident is alleged to have taken place near Woodmill Lane, between 11.30pm and 11.50pm on Sunday, December 2, 2018.

Janczura also faces an allegation of causing actual bodily harm.

He denies both allegations.

Janczura, of Laburnum Road, Southampton, appeared in court on Friday for a hearing ahead of his trial.

During the hearing Janczura was granted permission by the court to have an intermediary at his trial.

An intermediary facilitates communication between the police, prosecution and defence legal teams and the defendant to ensure that the communication process is as complete, coherent and accurate as possible.

The trial is set to begin on December 9.
