IT IS the primary school which has been ranked 23rd best in the country.
Portswood Primary School in Somerset Road has featured in the Sunday Times Best Primary Schools 2019.
This ranking was based on its “amazing” SATs results in 2018
Based in an Edwardian building which has been a school since 1904 the primary is part of Portswood Primary Academy Trust.
Ranked as “Outstanding” by the education watchdog since 2001, it is led by CEO Dr Keith Watson and Principal Tony Head.

With 470 pupils the school claims to benefit enormously from an intercultural mix.
Between them, the youngsters speak up to 25 different languages.
Last year the school won a competition to gain training from Royal Shakespeare Company.
Two of its teachers were trained up by the theatre company with the school then putting on a performance Matilda, based on Roald Dahl’s book.
The primary is one of the leading teaching schools in Hampshire meaning it trains new teachers and supports other institutions.
It boasts a mix of after-school activities including dance, football, tennis, computing and performing arts.
The school also features a nursery department large variety of toys and equipment for the children to play with, both inside and outside.
