A MAN who contracted Hepatitis E through contaminated platelets died of kidney failure, an inquest heard.
Matthew Charles Coghlan became unwell after a transfusion was performed ahead of a dental procedure, Dorset Coroner Rachael Griffin was told.
Mr Coghlan, 40, of Willow Drive in Ringwood, was admitted to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital on November 29 with acute Hepatitis E, the Bournemouth inquest heard.
He died eight days later from Hepatorenal Syndrome resulting from transfusion-related Hepatitis E infection.
Mr Coghlan, a single and unemployed man, was born in Benoni in South Africa, the inquest heard.
The coroner requested statements from the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Mr Coghlan's GP and from his family and adjourned the inquest until May 25 next year.
