THERE are long delays building through the New Forest after a car hit the central reservation on the A31.

Emergency services were called to reports of a crash involving two vehicles just after 5.10pm.

The incident has happened in the westbound carriageway at Poulner Hill, but there are queues in both directions as a result of the incident.

It is not yet known if anyone is hurt.

However, it is understood that witnesses are out of their cars and helping at the scene. One person stuck in traffic said a 4x4-type vehicle appears to be on top of the barrier.

There is traffic back to Stoney Cross on the westbound side. The second lane of both carriageways is currently blocked due to emergency services at the scene.

At 7.05pm, a passenger in a car travelling eastbound said: "It's happened almost at the turning for the services westbound.

"The cars have been moved now.

"The road was closed, but they're starting to let traffic heading towards Bournemouth through using one lane, so it's still very slow."
