A LITTER of kittens have been granted a Christmas wish this month, after they were rescued from a frosty cardboard box.

Three four-week-old kittens were found abandoned in a box in Eastleigh in below freezing temperatures.

The kittens were brought into the Blue Cross rehoming centre in Southampton last week after a member of the public discovered them in alleyway.

The four-week-old kittens were dumped overnight in a cardboard box as temperatures plummeted to -2ºc, the box was covered in frost and the kittens were found shivering.

Thankfully, the kittens, who have been named Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh, were found, brought indoors to warm up, and into the safety of the pet charity. All three are unharmed and well, apart from being covered in fleas.

The Blue Cross told the Daily Echo that in those temperatures, the kittens could easily have succumbed to the cold and not survived; they were very lucky to have been found when they did.

As they are so young, Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh are taking refuge in a foster home until they’re ready to find a permanent home in the New Year.

Kirsty Smith, Rehoming Supervisor, Blue Cross Southampton, said: “It’s so sad to think about what could have happened to these guys if they hadn’t been found.

"Kittens that young are lucky to have made it through the night in such cold temperatures.

"We beg anyone who is struggling with their pets to give us a call so we can help give advice or take the pet on for rehoming.

“Luckily, these three will be safe and warm, waiting to find loving new homes but until they’re old enough, they will be in a foster home.

"If you can give loving moments to any of our homeless pets this Christmas, please get in touch.”

Blue Cross is a charity and receives no government funding so relies on the generous support of animal lovers to continue helping pets in need.
