A COUNCIL boss has offered his condolences to the family of a man whose body was found at a Hampshire sports centre.
Police and paramedics were called to the Gang Warily complex in Newlands Road, Blackfield, just before 10.30am on New Year's Day.
Witnesses said one of the two lakes at the 50-acre centre was cordoned off following the discovery of a 31-year-old man.
Now the chairman of Fawley Parish Council, which runs Gang Warily complex, has offered his condolences to the family of the man, who has not been named by police.
Councillor Alan Rutherford Alvey said: “It is very sad. Police have not released any information to us about it yet.
“We know very little at this point.
“We would obviously like to send our condolences to the man’s family.”
Councillor Alvey said the sports complex was closed on New Year’s Day, the day the body was discovered, as it was a bank holiday.
He said the facility, which includes squash courts, a fitness suite, football and rugby pitches and a multi-purpose sports hall, reopened yesterday as planned.
Following the discovery, a spokesman from Hampshire Police said they were treating the man’s death as unexplained but not suspicious.
Hampshire Police say a file is being prepared for a coroner.
A spokesperson added the man’s identity would not be released, due to the force’s policy of not identifying those who have died in non-suspicious circumstances.
