Police have issues a warning of fraudulent £50 being in circulation in Oswestry.
The warning to retailers comes after Oswestry officers were made aware of a group trying to make purchases using the fraudulent notes in Cross Street.
PCSO Rob Hamer from the Oswestry Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) said: "They seem to make small purchases in order to get the maximum amount of change.
"They have targeted a number of stores in Oswestry and use distraction techniques to confuse sales staff during the purchase."
Anyone with information can pass it on by calling the police on 101 or via the anonymous Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.
