A COUNCIL van has been stolen from outside a property in Southampton.

The van belonged to Southampton City Council, and it was taken from an address on Bishops Road, along with a set of power tools that were stored inside.

This took place some time between 12am and 8am on Tuesday January 7, and officers were called to the scene.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.39am today (Tuesday 7 January) in relation to a report of a van being stolen overnight.

"Sometime between 12.00am and 8.00am a van containing power tools was stolen from Bishops Road. The van belonged to Southampton City Council."

The council confirmed that this is their second van to be stolen since Friday January 3.

A Southampton City Council spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we have had two vehicles stolen since Friday night. A Ford Transit Tipper, registration number HW08 HLX and a small Ford Transit Connect, registration number HW60 KFL.

"As well as the financial implication of these thefts, additional pressure is now placed on the Street Cleansing and Housing operations teams, who use these vehicles to deliver the services they provide.

"We would urge any residents who have any information on the whereabouts of these vehicles to contact the council on 02380 834208 and/or the Police on 101."
