A SOUTHAMPTON strip club is planning a revamp to “reduce the risk of trouble”.

Wiggle lap-dancing club will be refurbished to create a larger pole dancing stage, better VIP booths and more seating.

Having people seated rather than standing will reduce the risk of trouble – according to a premises application submitted to the city council.

With plans to install more CCTV in the new seating and entertainment areas, the renovation will give “better visual coverage” of the club, the firm claims.

Located at 188 Above Bar Street the venue’s basement will not change.

However, the ground floor will go back to being a bar with a stage for pole dancing. Meanwhile, the second floor will be split into changing rooms for dancers as well as additional VIP dance rooms.

Work will also be done to soundproof additional windows.

Described on its website as offering a “friendly and relaxed atmosphere” the club accommodates birthdays, stag parties, celebrations “and much more”.

With headquarters in Ojs Industrial Park, Portsmouth, there are also Wiggle branches in Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Weymouth.

The Daily Echo has contacted Wiggle which has declined to comment until the application has been decided.

Last year, managing director, Paul Ojla, said: “We are all along the south coast because I live in Titchfield and want to set places up near me.

“There were other establishments there before but now we have taken it over and have completely refurbished the whole building and have taken it up a notch.

“We are very upmarket, not like your typical pole dancing club, we represent a new outlook on pole dancing and lap dancing.

“A huge part of our business has nothing to do with pole dancing or lap dancing.

“We have a bar area and people like what we provide because it’s more upmarket and safe.

“It’s not a tacky bar where a load of idiots will turn up.”
