You could be forgiven for thinking this is just another picture of a ship in Southampton Docks in the 1950s.
The truth is that more than a few eyebrows were raised as Schabenstein came in to the port in February 1954. She was the first German passenger ship to call at a British port since the beginning of the Second World War in 1939.
Owned by the North German Lloyd line, the ship was the first in a fleet of six to be used on the route from Europe to the Far East.
