THIS picture shows a proud Romsey Football Club in the 1922/1923 season.

The club side that played in the Eastleigh and District League won the championship and in doing so ran up some large scores.

Perhaps the most emphatic victory being a 12-0 defeat of Chandler’s Ford with one player scoring seven goals.

In the Southampton Junior Cup, Romsey started with a 10-0 win over Pirelli General and followed this with a 2-0 victory over Hamble.

The semi final also proved easy with a 9-2 trouncing of Cunard Sports.

"The final was played at Winchester City’s ground and Romsey were represented by Lewis, Brown, Pearce, Moody, Ray,Yayes, Janson, Gambling, Southwell, Harrington and Smith," according to the club's history.

"Facing Sarisbury Green, the town went one down before Gambling equalised and Harrington scored the winner in the second half.The team were cheered around the town on their return from Winchester with the cup."
