THE date is 1936 and this photograph looks out across Civic Centre Road when the area had far less traffic.
On the right is the ornate tower of the old Grand Theatre, in front is the large building that was the Forum Cinema and on the corner of West Marlands Road is the former Civic Centre Post Office.
A lone bicycle is propped on the kerb on the extreme left of the photograph while the curved area towards the bottom of the scene was the Rose Gardens.
