A HOST of improvements are planned at Padgate Library.

An application for planning permission has been lodged with Warrington Borough Council in order to make alterations at the Insall Road site.

These include the proposed removal of the porch canopy at the front entrance, the replacement of existing windows and the installation of emergency lighting.

The work is believed to form part of a wider redevelopment of the library as a whole, which has been mooted by Livewire.

A remodelling and revamp of the internal space is on the cards as part of the scheme.

Cllr Tony Higgins, Warrington Borough Council’s executive board member for leisure and community, said: “The commitment to invest in our community libraries is really taking shape.

“The refurbishment at Stockton Heath Library is already proving a huge hit with users of all ages, and I’m now looking forward to the next stage in our library refurbishment programme.

“Padgate Library is supported by a very active friends group bringing much diversity to the library, and this is definitely something we all should celebrate.

“Building spaces within our libraries is also helping to develop a creative spirit that’s proving to be an important element for a more sustainable library service, and one that can only go from strength to strength – putting Warrington in a very positive place, especially around our library services.”
