FILM crews believed to be working for a popular Netflix series are setting up in Winchester.

The lorries, cameras and rigs stationed around the cathedral grounds are thought to be with The Crown – a show based on award-winning play The Audience by Peter Morgan.

In the Cathedral Close a cherry picker can be seen putting up lighting and dozens of lorries and trailers are parked around the side.

Colebrook Street Car Park, which has 86 spaces, will be closed tomorrow (January 21) and Wednesday (January 22) to make way for production vehicles.

It has been speculated on Twitter that the 'wedding rehearsal of Charles and Diana' is the scene being filmed in the cathedral.

The show, starring Olivia Colman, was spotted filming near Salisbury last week.

It last came to Winchester in 2018, taking over the Guildhall and also shot several scenes of early shows in the Winchester College area around the Wykeham Arms in January 2016.

Winchester City Council has been asked not to confirm which production is being filmed.

The Chronicle has contacted the cathedral but awaits a response.

In recent years, Winchester Cathedral has been used to shoot scenes for many popular films including the The Da Vinci Code and Les Miserables.
