THIS year's project timetable for the continued work at a historical woodland site in Chandler's Ford has been released by Eastleigh Borough Council.

The latest plan for the transformation work taking place at Hiltingbury Lakes has been released, giving residents an idea of what the improvements will look like once the £260,000 worth of restoration work is complete.

This is being run by Eastleigh Borough Council in partnership with The Conservation Volunteers charity.

Volunteers began working on the site weekly from November 21, clearing the pathways of invasive trees and plants and improving the overall area for the community.

Now as well as this, the next stage of work has begun with the aim of improving the water system that forms part of the Monks Bank main river, and a fully developed plan is being worked on over the coming months to enhance the main lake, ponds and river banks, and identify all locations where bank repairs are needed.

An Eastleigh Borough Council spokesperson said: "The latest plan for the transformation work taking place at Hiltingbury Lakes, Chandler’s Ford is now available for people to view and gives an idea of what the improvements will look like once the work is complete.

"Work will continue on the Hiltingbury Lakes project throughout January with the ongoing removal of invasive trees and plants and an aim to restore the woodland and wetland habitats back to their former glory."

Going forward, from February until July, the volunteers will be increasing the amount of wild flowers and reeds, re-installing the footpaths and improving facilities at the site such as benches, litter bins and fencing.

The full plan and ongoing information about the project can be found on the www.eastleigh.gov.uk website, where residents can also register to become a volunteer to help revamp Hiltingbury Lakes.
