WHILST Frank Adams comments in Friday’s Echo are welcome, to highlight pelican crossing timings, I cannot agree with his suggestion of instant red lights for motorists at the press of a button.

At busy times road traffic would simply log jam at crossings, causing more pollution.

What could work is radar movement sensitive crossings where buttons would only activate if road traffic was dense.

Come to think of it, all traffic lights might work on a radar sensing system to save unnecessary waiting when there is nothing coming in the opposite direction.

I do agree with Frank’s comment that a direct approach to the council highways department could promote action, but I won’t hold my breath.
