ARCHIVE PIC OF THE DAY: Do you remember this Southampton school opening
These youngsters have baked a cake to commemorate the opening of Oakwood First School in Lordshill, Southampton.
THE date was Friday, November 24, 1978 when Claudine Harvey, Caroline Jordan, James Bryant and Mark Pearce, all pupils at the school posed for this picture. The four of them had won a prize for the building’s design.
The school, commended in a national competition for design, had been selected as one of the top five out of nearly 60 entries.
Back in the late 1970s the school, which cost £26,000, had taken two years to complete.
