THIS is the horrific moment a biker was left with life-changing injuries after a crash in Wareham.

Rosemary Staddon-Smith, 74, was behind the wheel of a black Volkswagen Golf when she was involved in a collision with a man on a vintage black Velocette motorcycle in Bere Road, Wareham.

Staddon-Smith, of Gatemore Road in Winfrith Newburgh, was pulling into an entrance near the Sika Trail on the morning of Sunday, September 15 when the crash took place.

This week, she was sentenced to a fine and points on her licence after admitting driving without due care and attention. The biker, a 70-year-old man who lives in the area, was so grievously injured he remains in hospital.

He suffered a fracture to his eye socket and a broken leg and arm, which required an operation.

He was also found to have ruptured a disc in his neck.

Staddon-Smith was sentenced at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to six points on her licence. She was ordered to pay a fine of £147, costs of £85 and a £32 victim surcharge.

PC Mark Palmer, of the traffic unit, said: “Rosemary Staddon-Smith’s driving in September last year left her victim with life-changing injuries. He remains in hospital receiving treatment.
