A SOUTHAMPTON woman was left "very shaken up" after a man suspiciously entered her home claiming to work for a gutter cleaning business.

A 28-year-old from Hinkler Road in Thornhill, was "shocked" to see a man enter her home in broad daylight after she accidentally left her keys outside in the door.

It was reported that a man in his 40's knocked the door at around 2pm on January 24, before very quickly unlocking it and stepping inside of the house.

After being confronted by the woman, the man claimed to be working for a cleaning business and that he needed to clean the gutters.

The mum of two said: "He told me he noticed the keys in the door when he was driving along the road handing out leaflets for his business, but the man was in a normal car and there were no leaflets. I was upstairs and my daughter was asleep so the house would have seemed empty, I think he was shocked when he saw I was in!

"I was very shaken up on Friday and now I feel nervous being in the house by myself."

The man reportedly left the house shortly after the exchange and drove off in a grey car.

Officers have confirmed the report and have the case has been filed as pending further lines of enquiry.

A Hampshire Police Spokesperson said: "We were called by a woman at 2.22pm on Friday 24 January reporting that there was a man in her house acting suspiciously. The woman challenged him and he left. Nothing was stolen and no one was injured, and we believe he left in a grey car.
