As the end of Veganuary slips into focus, the Daily Echo begins the hunt to find the best place in Southampton to get a vegetarian or vegan meal.

We’ve pulled together a list of the top five establishments which offer vegetarian friendly options in Southampton, according to TripAdvisor.

1) Kohinoor of Kerala

Daily Echo:

This curry house brings you authentic food from the Indian state of Kerala. They have a vast menu with 150 items on, and a large vegetarian section as well.
Included in its selection is a Kerala Vegetable Curry, Channa Masala and Masala Dosa.
One person said: "Fantastic food and really friendly service.

"There is a brilliant selection of vegetarian dishes and plenty of meaty options too.

"Very tasty."

2) Miss Ellie's Cafe

Daily Echo:

This café prides itself on its freshly cooked food and weekly changing specials. They usually offer a couple of vegetarian options on their menu as well as sandwiches, baps and paninis.

A couple of options they've offered in the past include mushroom and vegetable curry or plant based five bean chilli.

One reviewer said: "Ordered a vegetarian breakfast and a full breakfast.

"Good size, great price and lovely food.

"We’ll be back!"

3) Bacaro

Daily Echo:
Not only is it the top Italian restaurant in Southampton according to TripAdvisor, but it offers vegetarian food too.
Just a few of the extensive vegetarian options include vegan meatballs, five bean stew and pesto spaghetti.
One person said: “The food (vegetarian) was delightful, and many delicious options to choose from, which I find rare when normally eating out.

"They often change the menu, which keeps things fresh and more the reason to return."

4) Paddle & Peel (It's a pizza thing)

Daily Echo:

This company, which specialise in homewood fired pizza, began with a truck but now have a restaurant in Bitterne.

Among the vegetarian options are margherita, veggie and four cheese.

One reviewer said: "Good vegetarian options and open to topping changes.

"It was my first time and I will definitely come back again"

5) The Roll Call

Daily Echo:

A traditional pub with a log-burning stove, beer garden and a menu with a variety of dishes to cater for all tastes.

Included in the menu is an Indonesian vegetable curry and a vegetarian chilli.

One person said: "Large portions, served quickly, homemade and delicious."
