HAMPSHIRE residents have complained of being abused, blocked in their homes and of cricket fans urinating in their gardens.

West End residents made 62 complaints to Eastleigh Borough Council (EBC) relating to cricket matches at the Ageas Bowl last year.

They claim to have suffered verbal abuse, vehicles blocking their drives, litter and fans urinating against walls.

One resident claims to have been physically assaulted.

It comes following a report by the borough council highlighting residents’ complaints about the internationally acclaimed venue during 2019.

The report shows an 88 per cent increase in complaints from 2018, which saw only seven.

The rise has been blamed on an increase in the number of games – with ICC World Cup matches, a one day international and the T20 limited-overs matches all played at the venue last year.

Members of the Pavilions Residents Group who live in Noyce Crescent and Bamber Close say they have met with the borough council to find a solution.

However, they claim speaking to the Ageas Bowl has been like “speaking to a brick wall”.

One resident said: “It has been an ongoing battle. Ageas has taken no ownership of the issue. It has been absolutely swamped.

"One resident sat in the road to stop cars coming in. I would like a steward to stop people parking here.”

Pavilions resident, Jenny Allen, 31, added: “It has been a real drama. I have seen fans littering, people have been abused. The main issue is cars blocking access for emergency services.”

Meanwhile, others have called for security gates, double yellow lines to be painted and parking permits.

Bosses at Eastleigh Borough Council say they are working with the Ageas Bowl to address the issues, but no decisions about how to resolve the complaints have yet been made.

A spokesperson for the Ageas Bowl said it was considering “a number of initiatives” to resolve the issues.

The spokesperson added: “These issues were primarily driven by tickets being purchased through third-party resale sites – meaning we were unable to communicate transport arrangements.

“We continue to work with the council and residents and are considering a number of initiatives to deal with these issues. “
