A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital following a serious collision on a busy Southampton road.
The accident happened on Hamble Lane, Bursledon, yesterday at around 5.30am, involving a vehicle and a male cyclist in his 50s.
Following initial treatment at the scene, the cyclist was taken to University Hospital Southampton where he remains with "potentially life-threatening injuries".
A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We received a 999 call at 05.33am with the caller reporting a serious collision between a vehicle and a cyclist on Hamble Lane, Bursledon.
"We sent two ambulances, a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer in a rapid response vehicle to the scene."
Police had shut Hamble Lane for around one mile this morning between junctions with Portsmouth Road and Hound Road.
