A GANG of youths threw chairs at a Hampshire man after trouble flared in a McDonald's restaurant.

Trouble flared between the gang of five young men and the man at the McDonalds in Wells Place in Eastleigh between a young man and five others.

The row broke at around 5.30pm on Monday.

Police were called to the fast food and a 17-year-old boy was arrested.

Officers have now launched a crack-down following three nights of violence across the town.

IN one incident two youngsters fought each other with knives and a bit of wood in the High Street at around 11pm last Saturday.

And the night before two more young men were spotted fighting at the junction of Leigh Road and Cranberry Road.

A 20-year-old man was later treated for minor injuries.

Officers are reportedly stepping up their presence in the town centre with more patrols.

They have carried out a number of stop and searches to ensure trouble-makers are identified and dealt with.

Police have released an image of a man - believed to be a key witness - they would like to speak to in connection with the fight on Saturday.

A police spokesperson said: "We want to make you aware and ask for your assistance following a number of incidents in the centre of Eastleigh recently.

"We received reports of disorder on three separate occasions on Leigh Road (near Cranbury Road), the High Street and in MacDonald’s in town.

"These kind of incidents will not be tolerated and we are working hard to identify those responsible.

"We can’t do that without your help though. Whilst we are following up all lines of enquiry available to us, including CCTV, we also need to speak to people who witnessed these incidents.

"We have increased our presence in the town centre, so you will see us patrolling, and we have carried out a number of stop and searches to ensure those who are intent on causing issues in the centre, are identified and dealt with.

According to police a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been interviewed and released on conditional bail until February 21 following the fight on Friday, January 24
