THE time is the late 1930s and staff – together with their vehicles – are lining up for an official photograph marking the opening of Southampton Corporation’s Chapel Wharf.
The depot, with its disposal plant, was designed to deal with an annual total of 14,560 tons of household rubbish, plus 3,810 tons of trade refuse.
