WHEN it comes to a family-run pub that openly welcomes their arms to other families, this watering hole fits the agenda perfectly.

Having opened in 1986, it was named after the favourite horse of local woman Mrs Chamberlayne-MacDonald.

The Cleveland Bay, set in the heart of the Chandler’s Ford community, regularly run community events such as a yearly fun day and animal petting zoos.

It also sets out to provide an ideal setting for both winter and summer months, with an open fire in the colder season to a large garden for summer.

Married couple Jade and John Whitfield became managers of the pub just over 11 years ago, in a bid to move back to where they grew up in Eastleigh.

Mother-of-two Jade said: “We have been the longest managers of the pub after it opened 30 years ago.

“We wanted to get married and have children near home, so when we heard they wanted new managers, we moved here. We have also had two refurbishments.”

One of their biggest events is the annual family fun day to raise money for Friends of PICU, who supported Jade’s newborn son Jenson, now ten, in their Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

He suffered with breathing problems but is now “healthy and fit”, and Jade continues to thank them for helping him through their family events.

They have raised £10,000 for the charity over the years.

Having been crowned the Perfect Pint pub of the year at the Wadworth Best of the Best awards 2017, they offer cask beers as well as home comforts.

According to Jade, their most popular dish is their fajitas, which are served on a sizzling tower.

And when it comes to dessert, it has its own stand-alone ice cream machine for child customers.

The pub also has a separate area for private functions, such as christenings and baby showers, while a large screen is set up for big sporting events.
