IT is one of the more unusual annual events in the Bradford district calendar and it’s back this weekend.

Potato Day in Saltaire has to be seen to be believed. The event proves popular and will once again be held at Shipley College, ExhibItion Hall, Saltaire on Saturday. Entrance is free.

Visitors can buy as many as they wish, but here is a handy guide to anyone looking to go:

How does it work?

More than 40 varieties of potatoes are displayed in boxes on tables inside the venue and visitors can get hold of whatever they want.

Get there early

The West Yorkshire Organic Group event runs between 10am and 2pm, but it is advised to get to the venue on time as boxes often empty out pretty quickly and it seems to run on a ‘catch them while you can’ basis.

How much are the spuds?

All potatoes are still only 15p a tuber, with visitors urged to bring their own bags.

Expert advice

People can receive specialist advice on which potatoes to buy and how to grow them from experts on hand at the hall.

What else will be at the hall?

There will be a number of stalls, including Palestinian dates and oil, Pextenement cheese, Leeds bread collective, Brickyard organic veg, Riverfords Vegetables.

What types of potatoes will be on sale?

These will include Blaue Anneliese, Duke of York, International Kidney, Lady Christl, Nicola, Shetland Black, with organically grown varieties up for grabs.
